KILLER BEES

Watch the latest collaboration between actor Emile Hirsch and director Ryûhei Kitamura on Hirsch’s song, KILLER BEES.

Actor Emile Hirsch, best known for INTO THE WILD, and writer of our upcoming action/thriller feature film IN TANDEM, expands his artistic pursuits into the music scene, most recently with his newest single, KILLER BEES. He stars in the music video directed by Ryûhei Kitamura, best known for his cult horror film THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN.

A song Hirsch co-wrote with his producer, Mathieu Carratier who goes by the moniker, The Frenchman, it explores the pressures, dangers, and addictions of news and social media in modern times. The end product features eerie, gothic vocals, melodies, and instrumentals that add to its ominous lyrics.

Director Ryûhei Kitamura and Hirsch were first introduced to each other on the set of THE PRICE WE PAY, an action/thriller released in 2022. They immediately hit it off as friends and creative collaborators. Kitamura expressed his interest in making a video for Emile after listening to some of his songs, which prompted Emile to take him up on his offer soon after.

Filming took place over a weekend near Salton Sea in Riverside, California. Working off essentially no budget, Kitamura came prepared with a crew and Hirsch, his passion and dedication to the project. While the team was initially hesitant to concede with Hirsch’s desire to perform risky stunts on rocky, dessert terrain, Hirsch’s urging and experience on physically demanding sets gave them the confidence they needed to secure their ideal vision.

Kitamura brought on cinematographer Matthias Schubert, someone he’s worked with most recently on THE DOORMAN, to capture the horror-inspired visuals.

Kitamura is attached to direct Hirsch Giovanni’s action/comedy BLOWOUT GEEZERS, written by Emile Hirsch.
